Herring Honored by San Antonio Education Partnership

Former San Antonio Mayor Judge Nelson Wolff, Mrs. Tracy Wolff, and Christopher Herring

Dr. Gilberto Ramon, Executive Director of the San Antonio Education Partnership recognized Christopher Herring and his company for assisting in the one million dollar capital campaign. Christopher wrote a touching story about Dr. Ramon and provided 20,000 copies of his River Walk Magazine to the city in hopes of increasing donations for the partnership. In front of the former mayor of San Antonio, Judge Nelson Wolff, on the center of the AT&T Center, Christopher was praised for his dedication to San Antonio and to the Hispanic families who live in Bexar County.

According to San Antonio Education Partnership data, scholarships went to 2,706 students in the 2007-08 school year, and scholarships have helped 2,700 college students graduate since 1989. Money has been given to an unlimited number of students since 1989, but Ramon said a tougher local fundraising climate may cause the partnership to limit its recipients.

“Moving forward, we’ll have to discuss if we should limit the number of scholarships per high school, or pass stronger criteria to get one,” he said. “We want to be as inclusive as possible, but at the same time, you have to look at the financial reality.”
