Herring Launches RevDrMartinLutherKingJr.com In Honor Of American Hero!

Christopher Herring visits the historic Dexter Avenue Baptist Church and the MLK Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama.  He launched the website to educate American about Rev. Dr. King and to share the nation – if not the world’s largest MLK March in San Antonio, Texas.  During his tour and conversation with his Uncle (on his wife’s side of the family), he learned his mother-in-law was a major contributor to the Civil Rights movement within the Montgomery Improvement Association.

The Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA) was formed on December 5, 1955 by black ministers and community leaders in Montgomery, Alabama. Under the leadership of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Edgar Nixon, the MIA was instrumental in guiding the Montgomery bus boycott, a successful campaign that focused national attention on racial segregation in the South and catapulted King into the national spotlight.

In 1978 the official name was changed to the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who helped to organize the Montgomery Bus Boycott in the church’s basement. The church is located steps away from the Alabama State Capitol.
